Centre for Precision Health Masters Scholarship

The Centre for Precision Health (CPH) is seeking Masters by Research candidates to undertake research in the Centre. The scholarship includes a stipend of $6,000 per annum paid in two instalments each year for a maximum of two years full-time.

At a glance

The Centre for Precision Health (CPH) is an ECU Strategic Research Centre located within the School of Medical and Health Sciences. Our priority research areas include cancer diagnostics and liquid biopsy, genetics of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions, and Chronic and metabolic conditions.

The scholarships offer a living stipend (only) of $6,000 each per annum for prospective and current students with a Master of Medical and Health Science by Research course offer to undertake a research project within the CPH.

Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible for this Scholarship you must have met the minimum requirements below:

  1. Have graduated from an undergraduate degree.
  2. Have been in contact with a CPH Supervisor and agreed on a project to undertake with the CPH.
  3. Have been made an unconditional offer of a place in an ECU Master of Medical and Health Science by Research (J90) course to commence in Semester 2, 2024* (no later than 2 August).
  4. You must enroll fulltime for the duration of the course (2 years).

*If you have submitted an application for course entry and have not yet been issued an offer you can apply for this scholarship and your application will be assessed subject to you receiving an unconditional course offer by the scholarship closing date of 30 June 2024.

NOTE: If you are a domestic student enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research program, you won’t be required to pay tuition fees due to the Australian Government tuition fee offsets. However, International students are still required to pay tuition fees.

You are not eligible to apply if any of the below apply:

  • You are already in receipt of another scholarship that contributes a living stipend.
  • You will not be undertaking a project within the CPH and under the principal supervision of a CPH member.
  • If your commencement period for the Master of Medical and Health Science by Research course is after 2 August 2024.

How to apply

Interested applicants are required to speak to a CPH Supervisor prior to submitting an expression of interest by email to cph@ecu.edu.au


Please ensure the below information is attached to the expression of interest email:

  1. Include your motivation for applying for this scholarship in 200 words or less.
  2. An indicative research title or theme
  3. Identify the CPH supervisor(s) you have spoken with.
  4. A curriculum vitae (CV), including your academic transcripts.
  5. Evidence of English-language proficiency (only relevant to applicants whose previous studies were not in English).
  6. Any supporting documents of prior research experience.
  7. Letter from ECU indicating your unconditional offer of a place in the J90 Course.

To meet ECU admission requirements, application is made by the Apply Online portal

  • The ECU online application will require a prepared 300-word research abstract and 2-page research proposal, information about your work, academic history, and qualifications, as well as any publications or conference papers you have co-authored.

Terms and conditions

  • Awardees of this scholarship must be continuously enrolled full-time in the Master of Medical and Health Science by Research (J90) course and maintain good academic standing.
  • Awardees (HDR students) are expected to be actively engaged in Centre for Precision Health activities.
  • Transfer to a different ECU course or project will result in loss of this scholarship.
