Dr Maggi Phillips Scholarship in Contemporary Dance

Generously donated by Nanette Hassall AM, former Head of Dance at WAAPA, the scholarship honours the memory of Dr Margaret (Maggi) Phillips who, in collaboration with Nanette Hassall AM, was instrumental in establishing Link Dance Company, WAAPA’s Graduate Dance Company.. The scholarship aims to encourage and support a Bachelor of Arts (Dance) student to undertake the fourth year Honours program by covering the fee component of the Honours program.

Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or New Zealand citizen;
  • have completed the Bachelor of Arts (Dance) and be enrolled in Bachelor of Performing Arts Honours (Dance);
  • be enrolled on campus full-time (60cp or course equivalent);
  • have and maintain an academic progression status of GREEN;
  • experiencing financial or personal hardship; and
  • not currently be in receipt of a substantial scholarship over $5000.

How to apply

Application is made via the ECU Online Scholarship Application Portal. Access to the portal is available between application opening and closing dates.

Applicants will be required to provide a personal statement of no more than 500 words addressing the following:

  • Explain your current financial circumstances and how your personal circumstances would benefit from receipt of this Scholarship.
  • Please include some details of the steps you imagine are involved in order to achieve this outcome.
  • How do you imagine the year in LINK will support and benefit your future aspirations?

Selection Process

Eligible applications will be assessed by a Selection Committee.

Selection will be based on:

  • Content of Personal Statement
  • Merit will be assessed on the consistency in the student’s attitude, ability (including choreographic) and capacity for leadership demonstrated over the previous three years.
