Forrest Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025

The Forrest Research Foundation is offering up to five prestigious three-year postdoctoral Fellowships in 2025 to outstanding researchers from around the world to conduct paradigm-shifting research based at any of Western Australia’s five universities.

At a glance

The Fellowships will be open to candidates from all countries and all disciplines and are intended to accelerate opportunities for outstanding researchers.

Applicants will have an outstanding academic profile and will have already made significant personal research contributions to their discipline. They will have gained high-level research experience through studying and researching in a number of different institutions, and their innovative doctoral research will be recognised well beyond their current institutional home.

Eligibility guidelines

The Forrest Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to candidates of any nationality. You will require an outstanding academic track record be a creative thinker, excellent communicator, passionate researcher and wish to join this elite group of exceptional Forrest Fellows.

To be eligible to apply for a Forrest Research Foundation Fellowship, an applicant must:

  • have successfully completed all the requirements for the award of their PhD on or after 1 January 2022, or will have successfully completed all such requirements by 31 December 2024;
  • be intending to reside at Forrest Hall, Perth for the duration of the Fellowship (exemptions may be considered by the Governors of the Forrest Research Foundation).

Selection criteria

  • Forrest Fellowships are offered to early-stage postdoctoral researchers who have outstanding academic profiles and who have already made significant personal research contributions within and beyond their discipline.
  • Forrest Fellows will have been among the top performing students in their undergraduate and graduate cohorts. They will already have gained high-level research experience through studying and researching in several different institutions, and their innovative doctoral research will be recognised well beyond their current institutional home.
  • Forrest Fellows will wish to extend their postdoctoral research well beyond the focus of their doctoral dissertation and will aim to do so in a way that builds intellectual bridges within and between disciplines.
  • Forrest Fellows are also committed to communicating their research to others, to have a positive impact on the world around us.

Value

These generous fellowships provide a stipend and accommodation at Forrest Hall in a luxury self-contained studio apartment.

  • Salary consistent with a Level A Step 8 appointment plus 17% superannuation
  • Accommodation Allowance of $24,128 per annum in 2024 (subject to marginal tax rate)
  • Research allowance of up to $12,000, plus economy airfare to Perth. This allowance is available for approved research-related expenses, overseas research, and conference travel.
  • All interstate and international Fellows can apply for a relocation allowance which can be discussed with the Director if successful.

Within Forrest Hall, you will live amongst other researchers in a vibrant and inspiring research environment. The Foundation also offers a unique ‘researcher’s journey’ program that exposes our Fellows to world leading researchers, mentoring, connections with Australia’s learned academies and more.

About Forrest Research Foundation

Forrest Research Foundation was established in 2014 following one of the largest ever philanthropic donations in Australian history by Andrew and Nicola Forrest. The donation is used to drive research and innovation capacity in Western Australia by awarding Forrest Scholarships and Fellowships to outstanding young intellects from around the world to conduct research at one of Western Australia’s five universities.
