Future Teachers Scholarship Fund

The Future Teachers Scholarship Fund is designed to provide direct financial support to students of Education during their final year professional experience placement. During this full-time compulsory professional experience placement students cannot undertake their regular paid employment and this Scholarship aims to help ease the financial burden during this time. The Scholarship provides a one off payment of $5,000.

At a glance

This scholarship is open to current ECU students and encourages applications from;

  • students from low socio-economic backgrounds;
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students;
  • students with disability;
  • students with chronic illness, medical conditions and/or mental health conditions;
  • students with caring responsibilities;
  • care leavers / people with experience of out-of-home care; and
  • students from rural or regional areas of Australia.

Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen;
  • have an academic progression status of GREEN;
  • be studying minimum of 30 credit points;
  • be able to provide evidence of financial hardship;
  • not currently be in receipt of any major scholarships of more than $5000 per annum or an ECU Equity Scholarship; and
  • be enrolled in final year of study undertaking final prac this semester in one of the below courses
    • Y42 - Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Studies)
    • Y41 - Bachelor of Education (Primary)
    • Y68 - Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
    • I81 - Master of Teaching (Early Childhood)
    • I83 - Master of Teaching (Primary)
    • I91 - Master of Teaching (Secondary)

How to apply

Application is made via the ECU Online Scholarship Application Portal. Access to the portal is available between application opening and closing dates.

Applicants will be required to provide a personal statement of no more than 500 words addressing the below;

  • Demonstrate drive and commitment to establish a career in teaching despite financial hardship or other personal difficulty.
  • How will the award assist you in addressing these limitations referred to above?

Selection Process

Eligible applications will be assessed by a Selection Committee. Selection will based on:

  • Demonstrated need and personal circumstances.
