Membrane Technology for High-Purity Alumina Production: Water and waste water Processing and salt extraction

This PhD scholarship supports research on applying membrane technology for high-purity alumina (HPA) production, with a focus on water and wastewater processing and salt extraction. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a recently awarded Federal Government CRC-P grant, building a $6.3 million pilot plant in Western Australia. The project aims to develop innovative membrane-based separation techniques to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance resource recovery. By optimizing filtration and purification processes, this research will contribute to sustainable HPA manufacturing, benefiting industries such as electronics, batteries, and advanced ceramics. The successful candidate will work in a cutting-edge research environment, collaborating with industry and academic partners to develop scalable solutions for industrial applications.

Eligibility Guidelines

This position is open to domestic and international candidates. To be eligible for this scholarship applicants must:

  • Meet the entry requirements for a PhD or Masters by Research at ECU

Selection Criteria

Apart from having a strong academic portfolio and research experience, the candidate must be capable of working in an industrial environment related to the project and effectively communicating with industry partners. Preferably, the candidate should have a background in chemical, mechanical, or a related engineering field.
