Ideology

The Bachelor of Social Work addresses the complex nature of contemporary societies, examining the opportunities, challenges and contradictions inherent in the promotion of individual and societal wellbeing. The course aims to equip students to work generically, providing opportunities to explore social work responses to individuals, families, organisations, groups and communities. A distinctive feature of the course is its focus on working alongside regional, rural and remote communities characterised by strong ties, isolation, distance and limited access to professional services. Such an approach is grounded in the conviction that a community development perspective on social work values, skills and knowledge is necessary in regional, rural and remote contexts and is applicable also in urban settings.

Social work education at ECU recognises that students bring a wealth of life experience to their studies and we provide learning opportunities that value and build on this experience. Learning about social work may entail personal change and development and the course provides a range of interactive learning experiences for students to explore social work values prior to undertaking field education placements. We are also committed to demystifying academic study and providing information in ways that students can readily access; this applies as much to modern learning technologies as it does to more traditional ways of learning and teaching. We also provide opportunities for all students (both on or off campus) to achieve a sense of community and cohesive endeavour through group tasks and activities, which take place face-to-face in campus classrooms and online in virtual settings.

CILECT - Centre International De Liaison Des Ecoles De Cinéma Et De Télévision (Or The International Association Of Film And Television Schools)

The Screen Studies major in the Bachelor of Media and Communications and the Master of Screen Studies (as part of the WA Screen Academy) are professionally accredited as an accepted member of CILECT, the International Association of Film and Television Schools; one of only five member schools in Australia. This membership is an acknowledgment of the high quality of teaching and learning at the Academy, and enables international collaboration in both production and research.

International Advertising Association (IAA)

The International Advertising Association (IAA) is the only truly international organisation to bring together Advertisers, Agencies, the Media and practitioners in communications into a unique and strategic partnership which champions the common interests of all disciplines across the full spectrum of marketing communications.
