Essential documents

In order to undertake a Professional Placement, you must have supplied ECU with evidence of the below current clearances and documentation.

All students undertaking Professional Placement and Field Placement are required to obtain an Australian National Police Check. Once obtained, this should be uploaded to SONIA - MyPlacement.

Further information and applications are available from the National Police Check website.

Disclosable outcomes

Students should make an appointment with the placement officers to discuss possible implications for professional and field placement.

Students will require a Working with Children Check (WWCC) if undertaking placement in an agency that provides services to children.

New applications

Please be aware that this check may take some time to be confirmed and students will not be able to commence placement

Application forms can be obtained from:

  • Australia Post Outlets or
  • Student Central on any of the three ECU Campuses. Please visit the Student Hub web page for campus specific locations.

Student Central will complete the institution section on behalf of ECU. Please ensure this is complete prior to lodgement with Australia Post.

For off campus students, once you have completed the application form in full, please post your application to the Student Central team, who will complete the required section and forward back to you via post.

Renewing online

Students can submit their application for online processing without having to present to ECU Administration, they can simply nominate ECU as their employer and state the studenthub@ecu.edu.au as the point of contact. Student Central will receive this request and process accordingly. The WWCC card/notification will be received by ECU and updated on the relevant systems.

For more information about WWCC please see the Working with Children Check website or Renew your card online now.

Some placement host organisations require students attending placement to undertake health screening to better protect them from contracting infections during placements and to protect colleagues and patients. These organisations typically include hospital, health and aged care settings. The process of health screening may take one week to confirm immunity, but it can take up to six months for students who need a full course of immunisation prior to placement.

If you are required to provide immunisation records for your placement, this will be made clear to by your placement coordinator and indicated on the Checks tab on the SONIA Student Placement Management System.

To ensure you provide the required evidence of your immunisation record, you should download the latest version of the SAH Student Serology and Immunisation Form.

If you have any questions about completing or uploading documents to Sonia, please contact with your Placement Coordinator or admin.sah@ecu.edu.au.

Other checks maybe required depending on course requirements. Please refer to your Placement Manual and check SONIA - MyPlacement. The following documents are relevant to all ECU professional placements.

The following links will help guide and direct you when using SONIA - My Placement for all relevant placement communication and documentation.
