This innovative initiative, funded by Lotterywest, seeks to create a community that bridges generations within the LGBTIQA+ by matching students, including international students, with older LGBTI people.
The program aims to offer mutual benefits: alleviating housing insecurity among younger LGBTIQA+ students and countering social isolation among the older LGBTI population. By living together, these pairs can offer each other companionship, support, and a shared living experience that enriches both parties.
Dr Lukasz Krzyzowski leads the project at ECU. Under his guidance, the SAGE Futures Lab will undertake a developmental evaluation to ensure the project’s adaptability and success through evidence-based strategies. Additionally, an impact evaluation will be conducted to ascertain the initiative’s effectiveness, accessibility, and sustainability.
This housing model not only provides secure and affordable accommodation but also fosters a deeper understanding and connection across different generations within the LGBTIQA+ community. It’s a step forward in creating a supportive network that values and respects diversity across all ages.
