The purpose of the Leadership Development in Non-Profit Project is to examine the barriers and enablers for current and emerging leaders in developing their leadership practices. Much of the current literature on leadership is centred around corporate organisations, with those focused on non-profits being limited. Thus, leadership ideas from these corporate contexts are often transferred to non-profits with some adaptations. However, there is a growing need to develop tailored leadership strategies that align with the distinctive characteristics and unique context in which nonprofit organisations operate.
Taking a two-stage approach; this project will firstly explore diversity and leadership representation in the non-profit sector. Secondly, this project will bring together current and emerging leaders from over 10 nonprofit organisations based in Western Australia to explore how each organisation can respond to improve access and opportunities for diverse sub-groups of their employees to develop leadership skills and ultimately assume leadership positions.
The leadership development project is funded by Richmond Wellbeing.
