Oikotan: Intergenerational music engagement to foster cultural identity, resilience, health and wellbeing in migrant communities.

Music engagement, whether through learning, performing, creating, sharing, or simply listening, serves as a conduit for individuals to connect with their cultural roots, traditions, and values. In migrant communities, music often bridges generational gaps, nurturing cultural identity and facilitating self-expression within the socio-cultural context. Dr. Ghosh explores how music engagement reinforces intergenerational bonds, preserves socio-cultural identity, and enhances the wellbeing of Bangladeshi migrant communities in Australia. By addressing gaps in understanding the role of cultural music in identity, resilience, and health, the project aims to develop a culturally tailored music engagement model to foster communication, resilience, and overall wellbeing in multicultural settings.
