Lukasz is a Vice Chancellor’s Research Fellow, within the School of Arts and Humanities, specialising in migration, LGBTIQA+ studies, and intergenerational relations, bridging research with policy development and community impact.

Background

As an applied sociologist, Lukasz's work bridges research and real-world application, translating complex social dynamics into tangible community benefits. Notably, he launched and leads the Rainbow Migrants initiative and co-designed the SPARK app, a social technology supporting vulnerable communities through acts of kindness.

His scholarly output and projects, supported by substantial grant funding, have deepened academic and community initiatives and led to significant societal changes, particularly for marginalised groups. His policy influence and community-driven evidence-based interventions continue to reshape support systems, ensuring inclusive and equitable access to services.

In addition to his research, policy development, and community engagement, Lukasz is an experienced educator and trainer. His teaching extends beyond traditional classrooms, incorporating community-based learning and professional training workshops that enhance service providers' capabilities in diverse sectors.

As a board member of GLBTI Rights in Ageing Inc. (GRAI) and an active participant in several advocacy and advisory roles—including LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, the Victims of Crime Reference Group (WA Department of Justice), and the WA LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Strategy Reference Group—Lukasz shapes policy and fosters inclusive environments for those with multiple marginal identities.

Before joining ECU, Lukasz co-established the UWA Social Care and Ageing Living Lab in 2019, serving as Associate Director and Innovation Manager. His prior roles included positions at AGH University of Science and Technology, Bielefeld University, and Humboldt University in Berlin.
