Background
Associate Professor Kylie Boltin is a multiple Walkley award-winning journalist and producer in the categories of Digital Storytelling (2014 for 'Cronulla Riots: The Day that Shocked the Nation') and Innovation (2022 for 'Ravi and Emma'). Kylie is also the recipient of a NSW Premier’s Literary Award for screenwriting (2021 for 'Missing') amongst other local and international awards.
Kylie worked at SBS Australia for eight years as a commissioning editor and executive producer, across interactive, multiplatform, TV, and OnDemand. Her experience at both SBS and NITV commissioned content includes feature documentaries, TV series, single programs, social media, and the web. Kylie has provided coverage on multiple TV series in development working with both emerging and established writers and adapting existing materials.
Kylie’s projects are culturally and linguistically diverse and she strives for best practice co-creation, including First Nations and Disability across all her writing, academic, and project-based work. She has led dozens of high-impact projects, across multiple platforms, working with partners including government, peak industry bodies, and advocates. Her work has been widely exhibited at film festivals including SXSW in Austin, Texas, and International Documentary Festival Amsterdam where she was most recently awarded the IDFA Creative Technology Award.

Research areas and interests
Kylie's research covers the fields of digital storytelling, immersive media, co-creation, multicultural and diverse representation and inclusive storytelling.
Kylie is currently a Chief Investigator in a successful ARC linkage grant, ‘Thriving in Vertical Schools: The impact of urban vertical schools on students’ capability and wellbeing’. (2022-2024) LP200301274 with the Queensland University of Technology.
