Justine is a Course Coordinator and Senior Lecturer (Fashion) within the School of Arts and Humanities.
Justine teaches first, second and third year units within the Fashion major as well and post graduate and independent study supervision.
Justine is creative practitioner in the specialist field that occupies the nexus between fashion and the visual arts with a focus on sculptural, couture level garments for exhibition contexts. Her works have a strong focus on textiles process to which she applies methodologies of gathering, deconstructing and reworking physical and theoretical material to critically consider memory, history, trace and narrative through the form and associations of cloth and garment form.
Since 2010 she has worked on significant collaborative projects with Munich based artist, jeweller Helen Britton making integrated artworks that investigate cultural and historical exchange of materials over time and the gathering and reworking with materials to overlay new narratives about place and matter. A Culture and the Arts WA Creative Development Grant in 2018 supported the development of their current project COLLIDE with Justine undertaking a creative residency in Britton’s Munich Studio collective.
Justine’s artworks have been exhibited nationally and internationally and are held in the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Janet Holmes a’ Court and private collections.
Between 2014 and 2016 Justine co-coordinated the WA-Hyogo Banshu Fashion Textiles Program a WA government initiative, which provided WA Fashion graduates with valuable local and international industry and professional networking opportunities. In 2018 Justine secured a New Columbo Mobility Grant to take a group of 18 fashion students to Guangzhou, China for a study tour at Guangdong Bauyen University, where she has been working to internationalize the ECU fashion program.
