Biography

Professor Alison McIntosh is currently Professor of Tourism and Hospitality at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand and is Founder of AUT’s Tourism For All New Zealand Research Group that champions inclusive and accessible tourism. Professor McIntosh is known internationally for her work as a critical tourism scholar and is an active advocate of social change through meaningful research-community partnerships. She has published extensively in leading international tourism and hospitality journals and is a sought-after supervisor and mentor of research students.

Her research recognises the citizenship rights of people with disability and those living with chronic or terminal illness to tourism as an inclusive leisure activity, and prioritises issues of inclusion, social justice and empowerment through tourism and hospitality experiences. In 2011, Alison co-founded the international interdisciplinary journal, Hospitality and Society, that seeks to expand frontiers of knowledge around hospitality social science. She brings to ECU a passion to further collaborate on research relating to tourism, hospitality and their subjective, cultural and social dimensions and impact.
