Dr Shannon Bosch is an Associate Professor of Law in the School of Business and Law.

Biography

Prior to joining ECU, Associate Professor Shannon Bosch served as the Academic Leader of Research and Higher Degrees in the School of Law at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. She has 20-years experience in law academia. Shannon is an admitted attorney and hails from the Goodricke family which established one of South Africa’s first legal firms in 1849.

Professor Bosch obtained her PhD in the field of International Humanitarian law, and was the recipient of several prestigious scholarships including the Mandela Magdalene College scholarship, and the Cambridge Commonwealth DFID Scholarship during her LLM studies at Cambridge University.

Her research focusses on international law and international humanitarian law, and she has devoted much thought to issues affecting the private military and security industry. Her numerous publications explore the impact of law on issues of combatant status in ever evolving armed conflicts. She has supervised and co-supervised over 40 masters and PhD students, across a wide range of topics and has championed several initiatives aimed at promoting postgraduate research and student success. She sits on the editorial board of the African Yearbook of International Humanitarian law.
