Associate Professor Rashid is the Acting Associate Dean (Accounting and Finance) and the founding Deputy Director of the Centre for Sustainability and Governance Research (CSGR) at Edith Cowan University (ECU), Australia.

Biography

Rashid earned his PhD from Lincoln University, New Zealand, where his innovative CG-CSR framework for corporate sustainability integration received the Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence. With over nine years of academic experience and leadership roles in institutions across New Zealand and Australia, he is committed to academic excellence and impactful research.

A recognised expert in corporate governance and sustainability, Rashid advances corporate ESG compliance by promoting transparency, mitigating misconduct, and embedding accountability into organisational practices. He has published in leading journals (ABDC-A*/ABS-4*/FT50) such as the Journal of Management, British Accounting Review, British Journal of Management, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Business Finance and Accounting. His work has been featured in media outlets, including The Conversation and Business News Australia, highlighting its societal impact.

Rashid has secured over half a million AUD in competitive research funding, delivered invited talks at academic forums and industrial institutions, and received prestigious accolades, including the Wiley Top Downloaded and Cited Articles Awards (2021–2023), Business and Society Best Paper Award - Finalist (2022), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Certificate of Appreciation (2021), and the SBL Commerce Discipline Award (2020). Rashid mentors Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates and early-career researchers, supervising multiple PhD projects/theses and leading successful HDR completions. He serves on the editorial boards of Journals, including Meditari Accountancy Research and Business Ethics and Environment & Responsibility, and has organised several conferences, including the 2022 Joint BAFA Corporate Finance and Asset Pricing Special Interest Group and the Northern Area Group (NAG) Conference

Rashid’s influential contributions to corporate governance, sustainability reporting, academic leadership, and consultancy services for organisations specialising in ESG frameworks highlight his commitment to advancing the field, fostering academic excellence, and promoting sustainable business practices. Passionate about bridging academic inquiry with real-world impact, he is committed to preparing the next generation of accounting professionals by equipping them with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to make a difference in businesses and society.
