Dr Abid Hussain is the Research Associate at Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety (MARS) - an ECU Industry Collaboration Centre for the Mining Sector.
Abid brings a wealth of Work Health and Safety (WHS) knowledge and experience to his role as Research Associate at Mental Awareness, Respect, and Safety (MARS) - an Edith Cowan University (ECU) Industry Collaboration Centre focusing on the mining sector in Western Australia. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy from ECU, with his thesis examining "The Concept and Role of Meaningful Work in the Context of the Public Healthcare Sector of Pakistan."
Before his doctoral journey, Abid developed a robust background in human resources, mental health awareness, medical relief, and community work for over 9 years across various for-profit and non-profit organisations. He has held diverse positions including HR advisor, educationist, writer, and entrepreneur. In these roles, he led numerous successful professional and community initiatives, alongside volunteer projects.
In academia, Abid has enriched students as a sessional lecturer and unit coordinator at ECU and Murdoch universities. His teaching repertoire covers a broad range of subjects like Healthy Work and Wellbeing, Managing Change, Human Resource Management Fundamentals, and Organisational Behaviour. Beyond teaching, Abid is a member of ANZAM, AIRAANZ, and the ECU Centre for Work + Wellbeing, reflecting his deep commitment to mental health, workplace safety, and meaningful employment. He has worked as investigator in multiple research projects including sustainability in project portfolio management within the extractive sector, psychosocial safety climate, leadership, and work engagement. His blend of academic rigor, research expertise, passion for healthy workplaces and practical experience positions him as a key contributor to MARS strategic objectives. He is dedicated to advancing the ECU-Industry collaboration and extending research on mental health and safety within the mining sector.
