Biography
Ken joined the School of Law and Justice at Edith Cowan University in January 2010.
Ken was admitted in 1984 and practised as a solicitor until 1997. From 1997 until 2009, he practised as a barrister from Francis Burt Chambers. He remained a member of those chambers as a door tenant until his retirement from legal practice altogether in June 2013. Ken has frequently appeared as counsel in most of the state superior courts, in particular the District and Supreme Courts, but also in the Federal Court. Ken had a general commercial practice covering most areas of commercial disputes and maintains a keen interest in commercial practice generally.
His particular research interests are the law of remedies and legal logic, and he has published extensively in those areas in the last five years. He is the primary author of two textbooks in current use, and otherwise has published primarily in A and B ranked journals. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. from Bond University. To date, he also has had two articles published in The Conversation.
Ken is also actively involved in the discipline's mooting program and has coached the discipline's mooting team in international and national moots, most recently in Gujarat, and in the National Administrative Law Moot. Ken presently also contributes to the legal practical legal training program by acting as mentor/instructor in the Leo Cussen PLT program. His interest in legal education extends beyond the classroom, and he has produced and directed several productions on the topic of legal logic.
Outside of his work life, Ken was a member of the Australian Army Reserve, having attained the rank of Major before retiring. He also holds a Graduate Diploma of Military Law from the University of Melbourne.
