Anthony is the Course Coordinator for Sport Business and Event Management and teaches into the sport business and event management, and marketing, programs.
After completing undergraduate studies in Queensland, Anthony graduated with distinction from the internationally renowned sport management program at the University of Massachusetts and the University of Oregon’s MBA in sports business (the first program of its kind within an American business school). He completed his doctorate in the marketing and branding of sporting team brands and recognised the contribution that foreign team fans make in an increasingly globalised marketplace.
Before joining academia, Anthony spent a decade in marketing, sponsorship and media relations working for sport organisations and agencies in the United States, England and Australia. During his professional and academic career, he has helped some of the world's most famous brands, including Nike, AT&T Wireless, SEGA, UK Super League, and Manchester City, meet their marketing objectives by leveraging the power of sport to engage with consumers and deliver tangible results.
Anthony spent many years at La Trobe University in Victoria where he coordinated the Bachelor of Business (Sport Management) and served on the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ) board. He has published widely on brand equity, consumers and fans, the marketing of football and the globalisation of team brands, and is a co-author of Sport and the Media: Managing the Nexus in Routledge’s popular Sport Management Series.
He has designed and delivered almost 40 sport business and/or marketing units at both undergraduate and postgraduate level during an academic career spanning nearly twenty years. Anthony is consistently recognised for his excellence in teaching and believes in the importance of a real-world curriculum that can prepare students for success in the intensely competitive and rewarding business of sport.
Anthony oversees the Y53 Bachelor of Global Sport Business Management, the T90 Bachelor of Global Sport Business Management (International) where students spend a year with the University of Portsmouth in the UK, and the sport business, and event management, majors within the Bachelor of Commerce.
When not working, Anthony loves to explore the world, scuba-dive and fuel his love of history. He is a strong supporter of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and every year can be seen flying the flag for the mighty Maroons.
