Work-based WIL units are by application only, so students are unable to self-enrol in SIMO. Students must apply one semester prior to when they wish to complete their work-based WIL experience. When applying, students need to specify whether they are self-sourcing their own placement or internship, or if they would like the WIL team to assist.
Finding your own industry host is a good idea if you have a specific idea of the type of industry or organisation you would like to gain experience in.
You can use your current employer as your industry host if the tasks/project you are working on is aligned to your course and different from your usual role.
All self-sourced opportunities are screened to ensure students can have a safe and meaningful learning experience that meets the targeted learning outcomes.
The WIL team can help students find a suitable work-based WIL opportunity. Using this service is best for students who are flexible on the organisation they are based in and the tasks/projects they undertake.
Applications for work-based WIL are via our dedicated portal. In the portal, you can find FAQs and lots of other information about the WIL program.
