Partner with us

The school partners with government, non-profit and private organisations to deliver a high-quality WIL program.  Partnering with the School offers organisations:

  • Access to emerging talent.
  • The chance to shape the future workforce.
  • Fresh perspectives and the latest academic knowledge to drive innovation and growth.
  • Opportunity to develop staff skills through mentoring and coaching students.

How does it work?

Undergraduate and postgraduate WIL students are available across the following areas: Accounting, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Event Management, Finance, Health Management, Hospitality Management, Human Resources, International Business, Law, Marketing & PR, MIS, Project Managment, Sport & Recreation Management, Supply Chain Logistics, Tourism.

Students typically start in the workplace in either February, July or November, although some undergraduates are available to start all year round.

For work-based opportunities, the WIL team recruits students and helps to match them with suitable hosts based on their organisational needs. The team also encourages students to source their own opportunities. Partners for projects and consultancies are managed by discipline areas within the school.

Am I a suitable host?

Host partners complete a suitability check to ensure a safe workplace.

Hosts must provide students with appropriate supervision (e.g. a marketing expert for digital/social media tasks). Supervisors will monitor and evaluate student performance and provide feedback, sometimes forming part of student assessment.

Partners are advised on terms relating to IP, confidentiality, insurance and roles and responsibilities, summarised in the WIL program’s Collaborator Guidelines’.

If you are considering getting involved as an industry partner in our WIL program, please contact the WIL team on businessWIL@ecu.edu.au or give them a call on 08 6304 5547.

Hear from our partners

We have thoroughly enjoyed partnering with the WIL program at ECU and have found it to be a highly rewarding experience. Hosting the students has been an enriching experience for our team too. The fresh perspectives and innovative ideas they bring have significantly supported our projects and daily operations. It is also incredibly rewarding to mentor and contribute to the development of future professionals in our industry. The students have not only provided us with additional support but have also infused our team with energy and new approaches. We are grateful for the opportunity to support their growth and look forward to continuing our successful partnership with ECU and playing a part in shaping the next generation of professionals.

Western Power has had the privilege of hosting numerous ECU WIL students over the past 7-8 years, across a variety of disciplines, including Cybersecurity, Project Management, Law and Engineering. This collaboration has consistently been a seamless process, and we have been fortunate to host some outstanding students who have gone on to complete our Vacation Program and subsequently join our Graduate Program. This partnership has proven to be a valuable pipeline, not only for our Graduate Program but also for the future development of Engineers at Western Power.

Entry Level Program Consultant, Western Power

It was our pleasure to host our first ECU Business student intern last year. A masters student completed 100 hours as an IT business analyst. The student was tasked with gathering requirements, undertaking research, and developing and implementing a quote tracking system. We were delighted with the result and continue to use this system on a regular basis as it has provided significant business value. Not only were we impressed with the student but also with ECU’s internship program. The university took as much care when inducting industry hosts as it does with students. We would highly recommend ECU internships to businesses wishing to provide a hands-on industry experience to the next generation of professionals in addition to adding business value to their organisations.

We are proud to be a long-term host of the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program at ECU and value the opportunity to support and mentor students as they develop their skills in the industry. We have found the program to be incredibly beneficial, both for our team and the students we work with. For some students, the placement is the first time they have had the opportunity to work in a professional office environment. Hosting an ECU WIL student has been a rewarding experience, we love to see the students grow professionally and personally during their placement. It is great to be in a position to offer them valuable real-world experience that we believe helps shape their future and the future of the industry.

Partnering with ECU's WIL program has been immensely beneficial for the Department of Environmental Regulation and the students involved. The program has infused our projects with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, while providing students with hands-on experience and essential skills for their future careers. This collaboration has not only enhanced our operational efficiency but also helped us identify and nurture potential future employees with four students being offered employment. Making it a win-win for everyone involved.
