School of Business and Law (SBL) radiated with vibrant colours and joy today as faculty members gathered for a special Diwali celebration, marking the Festival of Lights.
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a significant Hindu festival symbolising the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm by millions of people around the world. ECU SBL embraced the spirit of Diwali by organising a lunch event that not only brought the staff together but also provided an opportunity to learn and appreciate the cultural richness of the festival.
Several staff members of Indian descent adorned themselves in culturally authentic clothing, adding a touch of tradition to the celebration. The ambiance was enhanced with colourful decorations, creating a festive atmosphere that reflected the spirit of Diwali.
A highlight of the event was the Pooja Table, a display dedicated to prayers and rituals associated with Diwali. Pooja, meaning prayers, was explained by one of the professional staff members, Hasit Gadani, who provided an insightful and informative speech about the significance of Diwali. Associate Professor Joshua Aston also shared his knowledge, adding depth to the understanding of the festival.
To conclude the celebration on a delicious note, the staff enjoyed a catered lunch from a local Indian cuisine restaurant called Curry Munchers. The menu featured an array of mouth-watering dishes, offering a taste of authentic Indian flavours. The culinary experience added a delightful touch to the festivities, with many expressing their appreciation for the delectable spread.
ECU SBL's Diwali celebration not only fostered cultural understanding and appreciation but also strengthened the sense of community among staff members. The event showcased the school's commitment to embracing diversity and creating a harmonious environment for everyone.
As the lights dimmed on the festive gathering, the echoes of laughter and the warmth of shared experiences lingered, leaving a lasting impression on the ECU SBL community.
