In a significant achievement, ECU School of Business and Law academics have been awarded a substantial grant of $75,000 by the Department of Communities for a pioneering project called "Empowering Women in Western Australia to Achieve Economic Independence Through Entrepreneurship."

Led by esteemed academics Professor Kerry Brown, Dr Jalleh Sharafizad, Dr Janice Redmond, Dr Violetta Wilk, Dr Fleur Sharafizad, and Dr Aglae Hernandez Grande, the project aims to foster and support the entrepreneurial endeavours of women across Western Australia.

The project helps equip women with the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in the realm of entrepreneurship. Through tailored training programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities, the project seeks to empower women to overcome barriers and realise their full potential in the business world.

The grant was one of only two announced as part of the Department of Communities' initiatives to promote gender equality and economic empowerment and represents a pivotal step towards fostering a more inclusive and diverse entrepreneurial ecosystem in Western Australia.

The awarding of this grant reflects a recognition of the critical role that women play in driving innovation, growth, and prosperity. With this funding, ECU School of Business and Law is poised to make a tangible impact on the lives and careers of women entrepreneurs across the state.

The grant announcement was made by Premier Roger Cook at the International Women's Day Summit. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress" strongly resonates with the objectives of this groundbreaking project. As we celebrate the achievements of women and recognise the importance of gender equality, initiatives like these serve as a signal of progress towards a more equitable future.

"I look forward to seeing what the future holds for the participants of these two projects as Western Australian women embrace the opportunity to grow their businesses and create their own economic success stories." said Women's Interests Minister Sue Ellery.

We look forward to watching this transformative initiative unfold, helping women entrepreneurs embark on their journey towards economic independence and success.
