Allianz Team: Winner of the Youth Achievement Prize
ECU School of Business and Law students won big at the 2024 Western Australia Police Force (WAPOL) x Western Australia Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH) Hackathon, showcasing their exceptional AI skills. In a stunning display of innovation and problem-solving, four teams from ECU competed in the WAPOL x WADSIH 2024 hackathon, with SBL Team Allianz winning the Youth Achievement Prize.
Held over two days, the event aimed to harness the power of Generative AI (GenAI) to enhance safety measures across Western Australia. The WAPOL x WADSIH hackathon is a pivotal platform for students and innovators to address critical challenges facing law enforcement and public safety. This year's competition focused on utilising advanced AI technologies such as Chat GPT, Whisper, and Dall-E to develop solutions across five specific challenges.
Among the participants, ECU students formed four distinct teams, each tasked with devising innovative solutions to complex issues This recognition not only underlines the university's commitment to fostering talent but also highlights the capability of its students to contribute meaningfully to real-world challenges.
Mentored by Dr Senali Madugoda Gunaratnege and Dr Laizah Mutasa, Team Allianz impressed judges with their innovative approach and thoughtful application of AI technologies. As the winners of the Youth Achievement Prize, Team Allianz received recognition for their outstanding performance, adding to ECU's reputation as a hub for innovation.
Their success serves as inspiration for future participants and reinforces the university's commitment to excellence in education and research.
