Edith Cowan University's School of Business and Law (SBL) marketing students have collaborated with Brownes Dairy to propose fresh, innovative strategies aimed at enhancing the already successful sustainability efforts of one of Western Australia’s most iconic brands.
Students from the Marketing Strategy (MKT3601) unit presented forward-thinking ideas designed to expand Brownes Dairy’s market share while strengthening its alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
Top performing student teamspitched their comprehensive marketing strategies to Brownes Dairy’s Marketing and Sustainability team, offering creative marketing strategies rooted in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
From eye-catching campaign mock-ups to boundary-pushing marketing ideas, the students provided bold strategies to build a greener, more competitive future for one of WA’s favourite brands.
Melissa Fong-Emmerson, marketing lecturer at ECU and coordinator of the project, is grateful for the support of Brownes Dairy : “This partnership is an invaluable opportunity for our students to gain hands-on experience with a major Western Australian brand, understanding not only the creative side of marketing but also the strategic complexities of business sustainability. We’re incredibly thankful to Brownes Dairy for this opportunity. It was particularly special as we have Samantha Fischer, Junior Brand Manager and SBL alumna supporting the next generation of ECU students.”
At the start of this project, students had the chance to step behind the scenes of Brownes Dairy’s operations, led by Jo Granby, where they learned about the company’s innovative marketing and sustainability practices. A yogurt-tasting session added a sweet ending to the experience.
Samantha Fischer, alongside Emily Best, head of Brownes Dairy’s sustainability efforts, shared valuable insights from their roles in the company.
This project is part of ECU’s broader effort to integrate authentic learning experiences into the curriculum, allowing students to work directly with industry partners and gain critical skills for their future careers in marketing.
Next up, ECU students from the Retail Marketing (MKT2700) course will present their retail marketing strategies and e-commerce website designs to Indigenous small business owners, continuing the hands-on, impactful learning approach.
The collaboration with Brownes Dairy has inspired the students, giving them a platform to apply their creativity and passion. With sustainability-driven campaigns and bold growth strategies, these emerging marketers are proving they’re ready to shape the future of business.
