On Wednesday, 12 March 2025, the Law Discipline of the ECU School of Business and Law (SBL) hosted an insightful panel discussion titled “Time Management – Techniques to Succeed in Law School”. The event, held in the Moot Court, brought together legal professionals and top law students to exchange practical strategies for effectively managing time in the demanding field of legal studies.
The keynote address was delivered by Adjunct Professor of Law, Barrister Cav. Maria Saraceni, who captivated the audience with her reflections on the significance of time management. Drawing from her extensive career in legal practice and community service, she emphasised that time management is far more than just organising tasks—it is a dedicated and strategic approach essential for success in both law school and professional life.
The panel featured accomplished individuals, including Jacob Orley, Denise Roff, David McLoughlin, and Nerize Peyper, who shared their personal techniques for balancing academic commitments with work and other responsibilities. Their strategies included the use of whiteboards for visual planning, colour-coded Outlook calendars for efficient scheduling, and traditional diaries for structured task management. Despite facing challenges such as full-time employment and frequent interstate travel, each panellist demonstrated that disciplined time management was a critical factor in excelling at law school.
The discussion not only highlighted practical tools but also emphasised the mindset required for effective time management—proactivity, adaptability, and prioritisation. The event was well attended and highly appreciated, leaving participants with valuable insights and motivation to refine their own time management techniques.
