SBL1100 Foundations of Business Students, tree planting
The purpose of the School of Business and Law (SBL) Responsible Management and Sustainability Committee (RMSC) is to ensure co-ordination and communication across the School to enable the effective development of the SBL responsible management and sustainability plan; and to provide leadership, advice and guidance on related key activities and matters.
SBL has liaised with several organisations including City of Joondalup, City of Wanneroo, Enactus, SCR group and Trillion Trees among others to create learning opportunities for students and staff. This has increased students’ desire to act for sustainability and SDGs. It has seen the creation of a forum for discussion and debate on issues encompassing sustainability and global responsibility.
In 2019, SBL formally became an advanced signatory to the United Nations (UN) Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). This warranted a more focused and explicit commitment to sustainability. The School has also pursued a bottom-up approach by forming a PRME and Sustainability Steering Committee working on integrating sustainability, responsible management, SDGs and ethics in its teaching and learning, research and operations. In 2019, the School appointed Dr Mehran Nejati as Director of PRME and Sustainability to champion the School’s sustainability practices and lead the PRME and Sustainability Steering Committee, which is represented by students and staff from all disciplines to foster cognitive diversity and inclusiveness in its decision making and practices.
