Ganghua Chen, PhD, is Associate Professor in Tourism Management in the School of Tourism Management (STM), and a member of the Centre for Tourism Planning and Research at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). He obtained his Ph.D. in Tourism Management from Sun Yat-sen University in 2012. Prior to joining the STM at SYSU in 2015, Ganghua worked at Southeast University in Nanjing, as a lecturer, during 2012 to 2015.
His research interests include tourist behaviour, destination marketing, backpacker tourism, resort governance, and resort environment restorativeness. He has published widely on Chinese tourist behaviours, especially Chinese backpackers’ motivation and personal development, vacationers’ perceived destination restorative qualities, as well as various tourism governance issues in China in leading tourism journals including Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Journal of Travel Research, and Tourism Management. He is a reviewer for more than ten international tourism and hospitality journals (i.e., Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, and Tourism Management) and is on the editorial board of two academic journals: Tourism Review and Cogent Social Sciences.
