Business Competitiveness Research Cluster

Abstract

The Business Competitiveness Research Cluster (BCRC) contributes to understanding organisational competitive advantage(s) and success by engaging in research that examines the motivations, behaviours and outcomes associated with managerial choices at macro and micro levels. At a macro-level, the focus is on better understanding organisational capabilities, organisational boundaries, inter-firm competitive dynamics, entrepreneurial ecosystems and international business developments. At a micro-level, the focus is on how leadership, project management and corporate governance support firm-level decisions. Research in the research cluster is focussed on examining these issues from both theoretical and industry perspectives, creating a point of difference and knowledge repository for industry to solve problems.

The aims of the BC research cluster are:

  1. Facilitate a focused conversation about issues relating to business competitiveness. By creating an arena for such discussions and bringing together a variety of scholars and practitioners, the cluster creates a platform for relationship building, professional development and the creation of organisational capacities in a key research area for SBL.
  2. Support the publication of high-quality research in 3507 and the pursuing of joint research grants that will help lift SBL’s research profile. The benefit of the cluster is to provide personal links, potential research opportunities through integrating different interests, and dedicated feedback for its members to successfully meet the high standards of the journals.
  3. Provide a structure for effective mentoring of early-career researchers and HDR students that helps them to develop their research profile. Being part of a supportive research culture is important for career advancement, with various cluster activities being developmental towards that goal.
