The Finance and Investment Research Cluster (FIRC) focuses on addressing key challenges and emerging trends in financial markets and investment practices while enhancing the research capacity of the school.

The core motivation of the cluster is to provide valuable insights into how companies, individuals, and governments can make better financial decisions in an ever-changing global landscape. This has become more essential with the recent innovations in financial technology (such as blockchain, cryptocurrencies, robo-advisors, decentralized finance) and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve trading algorithms, credit risk assessments, fraud detection and automated regulatory processes.

The aims of Finance and Investment research cluster are:

  1. To foster publication of high-quality research to address pressing challenges and emerging trends in the finance and investment (3502)
  2. To encourage collaborative efforts in securing joint research grants, enhancing the Cluster’s capacity to conduct high-quality innovative research.
  3. To support and mentor early career researchers, helping to expand their research capabilities, connections and foster professional growth.
  4. To provide HDR students a supportive and collaborative research environment to guide their academic journey.
  5. To build strong connections with the industry leaders, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies, creating a bridge between academic research and real-world practices.
