Information security risks are increasing in frequency and impact due to technology pervasion in society – one that will continually rise. Hyper-connectivity introduces threats and awakens vulnerabilities. Given the dominance of technology, and the risks associated with its use, protection of information and associated assets become imperative. The promulgation of laws relating to the scope of systems, electronic devices and data networks, highlight the importance of implementing large-scale regulatory frameworks to reduce security breaches and IT crimes.
This year's Law Assembly aims to peek at some of the significant legislation and challenges facing global netizens.

This forum will feature the following presenters;
Ms Rachel Falk is the CEO Cyber Security Cooperative Research Centre and comes to the Cyber Security Cooperative Research Centre with a strong commercial and cyber security background, having practised as a lawyer for 15 years in leading law firms both in Australia and the UK, and also in-house at Telstra Corporation Limited. Ms Falk became Telstra’s first General Manager of Cyber Influence. More recently she has been a cyber security consultant. She is a published author as well as the co-creator of the ‘Five Knows of Cyber Security’. Ms Falk is a regular commentator on topical cyber security issues.
Professor David Wall is a Professor of Criminology, Centre for Criminal Justice Studies School of Law University of Leeds and teaches cybercrime, identity crime, organised crime, policing and intellectual property crime. He has been a member of various governmental working groups, such as the Ministerial Working Group on Horizon Planning 2020-25, the Home Office Cybercrime Working Group, and the HMIC Digital Crime and Policing working group. He is an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a Fellow of the Higher Teaching Academy.
Mr Iain Freeman is a Partner at the Lavan Litigation and Dispute team. Mr Freeman has acted for both commercial clients of Lavan and insurers predominantly in the areas of commercial dispute resolution, professional indemnity, construction matters, directors’ and officers’ insurance, fire, property and liability insurance and trade practice matters. Iain has extensive experience in intellectual property law, having acted in numerous intellectual property disputes.
Ms Julie Condon QC, Stawell Chambers, Victorian Bar practises largely in criminal defence work across all jurisdictions in Australia and has appeared internationally. She spent two years in The Hague, appearing at the War Crimes Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. She is a lifetime member of Reprieve, an antideath penalty organisation. Ms Condon was appointed a Judge to the County Court of Victoria and in July 2019. More recently, she has appeared at the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informers (Lawyer X Royal Commission) and the Board of Inquiry into Hotel Quarantine in Victoria.
