Discovering secrets about the human skeleton, bone strength and how to prevent osteoporosis, getting creative and crafty with old magazines to make Zines, sparking curiosity about how maths matters in all careers, building drama skills and confidence through role play and games were the fun, educational experiences offered during the Children’s University April school holiday program.

Over 180 children and their family members representing 18 CU partner schools from Perth and the South West visited the ECU Joondalup, Mount Lawley, and Bunbury campuses, and together as a family engaged in an assortment of fun, hands-on workshops. There was lots of fun and learning had by everyone, young and old!

Thank you to ECU Academics and students across the School of Education, and the School of Medical Health Science who engaged in the learning journey with our CU Scholars. Whilst delivering the workshops these university experts shared their passions for learning and superior knowledge in their respective fields whilst helped to raise aspirations amongst WA children.

The feedback from the participants summarised the fantastic family learning opportunities this holiday program provides.

“I enjoyed everything, it was amazing and shows university can be fun” (CU child)

“An exciting and impressive afternoon learning about why maths matters and how maths plays an important role in soccer/sport, cooking, medicine, fashion designing, and many other careers” (CU guardian).

“This workshop was one of the best, it was very creative and helped the kids to think outside the box and explore their imagination” (CU guardian).

“Having the opportunity to visit the learning facilities at ECU campus and…as well learn something new with my child” (CU guardian).

Special thanks tothe Australian Government, Department of Education and Training’s Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP) and the University Department of Rural Health – South West for their generous funding and support.
