On 26 and 27 November 2024, ECU’s Children’s University team proudly hosted two inspiring graduation ceremonies at the Joondalup campus. A remarkable 229 graduates (77%) from 14 ECU Children’s University (CU) partner schools participated, representing Balga PS, Burns Beach PS, Camboon PS, East Wanneroo PS, Edgewater PS, Midland HSG, Morley PS, North Metro HSG, Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, Quinns Beach PS, Roseworth PS, Somerly PS, St Stephen’s School, and Swan View PS.

Each of these young scholars took the stage to receive congratulations from an audience of over 350 community members, including families, school representatives, ECU academic and professional staff, community Learning Destination representatives, and local government officials. ECU’s graduates joined a broader cohort of 689 students from across Western Australia, contributing to a monumental total of over 7,000 Children’s University graduates across Australia and New Zealand this year. Together, the WA 2024 graduates completed an extraordinary 44,063 hours of additional learning, celebrated at these graduation events.

Adding to the excitement, ECU’s Children’s University program was recognised as an ABA100® Winner for Community Contribution (CCA) at The Australian Business Awards 2024. Additionally, the program and its partners were honoured with a Highly Commended Award at the 2024 Engagement Australia Awards, celebrating their exceptional collaborations between tertiary education and communities. These partnerships have created significant societal benefits, particularly by engaging rural, regional, urban, disadvantaged, and marginalised groups across Australia and New Zealand.

These achievements are a testament to the dedication and hard work of ECU’s Children’s University team. Special thanks also go to the ECU academic staff who led on-campus holiday workshops, CU school coordinators, over 100 WA Learning Destination partners, and the CU families who have supported this impactful initiative. Looking ahead, thanks to generous funding from the University Department of Rural Health (South West), ECU’s Children’s University team is excited to host the first-ever South West graduation ceremony in Bunbury on Saturday 22 February 2025.
