David is a Senior Lecturer and Program Coordinator in the School of Education at the South-West campus.

Background

David has been involved in teaching and education for over twenty years. He was a full-time secondary school History and English teacher, and Head of House at St Andrews Cathedral School in Sydney. He has worked with Indigenous pre-service teachers in remote communities in the Northern Territory, through Charles Darwin University, and was Deputy Principal (Pastoral) at Kormilda College, a day and boarding school in Darwin.

Research Areas and Interests

David’s research broadly focuses on social justice issues in education, including sexuality, gender, inclusivity, and Indigenous education. David has a particular interest in LGBTIQ+ issues in education and has presented at a range of national and international conferences on LGBTIQ+ inclusion in young adult literature, inclusive curriculum design, and combating homophobia in schools. David has also been an active contributor to The Conversation on a range of issues related to sexuality and gender equality, and specifically sex, gender, and sexuality education. David has published a range of journal articles and a book chapter on combating homophobia in schools. He is currently researching approaches to incorporating LGBTIQ+ issues into an undergraduate Primary Pre-Service Teacher Education program.
