Renewable Energy Laboratory

ECU’s Renewable Energy Laboratory offers outstanding facilities to drive innovation and leading-edge research to support Australia’s green energy future.

As industry, business and households increasingly turn to renewables, forward-thinking technologies are critical to deliver a cleaner, more efficient and reliable electricity network.

The Renewable Energy Lab supports frontier research into the integration and management of renewable energy sources (RESs). With access to industry grade equipment and leading expertise, the Lab offers researchers and students real life, effective and efficient ways to integrate RESs in a power system and address and manage relevant practical challenges.

These outstanding facilities allow ECU students to be at the forefront of new discoveries and breakthroughs in areas such as:

  • Microgrid energy storage systems
  • Improving system resilience
  • Demand forecasting
  • Integration of electric vehicles into smart grids
  • Efficient second-life battery usage
  • Intelligent control techniques for improving power quality and network resilience
