Mr Murray Terwey

Murray Terwey has a passion to find the most effective way to pass on his experience in aviation to new generations of pilots.  He has been working in the aviation industry for 35 years, has an Air Transport Pilot Licence, Multi Engine Aeroplane instrument rating, experience in over 30 aircraft types and almost 9500 hours of flight time.  He still flies regularly, attends industry forums and is conducting research into various aspects of the industry.  These endeavours help Murray keep up with the many changes occurring in aviation worldwide and also assist in solving existing and emerging issues in the aviation industry.

Murray has been training and assessing licenced and student pilots for a large part of his career as both a Check and Training captain and 11 years as a lecturer with South Metropolitan TAFE at their Aerospace Training Centre at Jandakot Airport in WA.  He also has experience in RPAS (drone) training and assessment at the Fremantle Campus of South Metro TAFE and has added an RePL (Remote Pilot Licence) and Cert III in Aviation (Remote Pilot) to his flying qualifications.  Murray has been working at ECU since 2021.

Murray has a Research Master's Degree from UNSW, where he researched the training and assessment of pilots and a Bachelor of Aviation Studies from UWS. Murray is also involved in collaborative research looking into improvement in improvements of safe pilot performance and other issues in the aviation industry.

  • Improvements in safe pilot performance.
  • Organisational accidents, their causes, and techniques for prevention.
  • Improvements in the understanding of human factors as they relate to RPAS (drone) operations.
