Kurongkurl Katitjin, pronounced koor-ong-kurl cut-it-chin, Kurongkurl Katitjin is a Noongar phrase meaning “coming together to learn”.
Our purpose is to transform lives and enrich society through meaningful community engagement, innovative student support, high quality teaching, impactful research and cultural leadership.
Kurongkurl Katitjin plays a vital role in assisting the University to meet its commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Kurongkurl Katitjin provides community engagement programs to inspire Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to seek higher education.
Kurongkurl Katitjin has a dedicated Student Success team who provide a tailored approach to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at ECU.
Kurongkurl Katitjin leads a range of projects focusing on health, education and culture.
Kurongkurl Katitjin is committed to leading and facilitating cultural knowledge for ECU’s staff, students and university community, to enable a greater depth of understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culture and perspectives.
Dr Roma Yibiyung Winmar, ECU’s Elder-in-Residence is a respected Noongar Elder and passionate advocate for Indigenous education, language and arts.
