Chronic pain from an approach and avoidance motives and goal processes perspective

Student name:

Zahra (Pari) Eshraghi (PhD candidate)

Supervisors:

  1. Professor Joanne Dickson
  2. Dr Deirdre Drake

Summary of thesis:

The main aims of my proposed PhD research are to study chronic pain from the perspectives of approach and avoidance motives and goal processes. Motivation is fundamental to human well-being, yet little research has examined chronic pain through this lens. My research focuses on motives specifically. The PhD comprises five studies: a scoping review, a correlational study, scale development, and validation, and finally, developing and testing a framework for understanding chronic pain and mental health from the approach-avoidance motive and goal process perspectives. This research aims to understand the nature of chronic pain from a motivational and goal processes perspective.
