Research infrastructure

The Centre for Precision Health is dedicated to exploring the biological determinants of human health, leveraging our collective expertise in Genomics, Glycomics, and Proteomics to develop tailored precision health solutions capable of forecasting individual disease risk, progression, and treatment response. The Centre has specialised pieces of research infrastructure that can be accessed by external academic institutions, as well as small to large biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, to drive innovation and evidence-based translation through research collaboration and fee-for-service provision.

For further information on the platforms, accessibility and collaboration, please reach out to Professor Simon Laws (s.laws@ecu.edu.au) or Professor Elin Gray (e.gray@ecu.edu.au)

Other equipment used in the lab

Ion GeneStudio S5 System and Ion Chef System

The Ion GeneStudio S5 systems are designed to enable a broad range of genetic analysis through next-generation sequencing (NGS) at high speed and scalability. The Ion Chef System simplifies the workflow providing an automated, walk-away workflow solution for NGS library reproducible preparation.

Droplet Digital PCR (ddPCR™) QX200™ and AutoDG™ Systems

This sensitive system provides absolute quantification of target DNA or RNA molecules for digital PCR applications. Market leader in digital PCR technology and leading methodology for detection of rare variants such as detection of cancer mutations in blood.

ANGLE’s Parsortix system

Specialised microfluidic device for isolation of circulating tumour cells, and other rare cell types.

Waters Acquity UPLC with Separation Columns

Ultra-performance liquid chromatograpy for the high-throughput of N-glycans in serum and plasma.

Gallios Flow Cytometer

The Gallios Flow Cytometer provides efficient acquisition of up to 12 parameters with advanced optical design for enhanced sensitivity for multicolour immune assays, for cellular characterisation and immune profiling.

Nikon Eclipse Ti2 inverted fluorescence microscope

The EclipseTi inverted microscope with four fluorescence channels and automatic scanning enable rapid screening of large areas for the identification of rare cell types, such as circulating tumour cells.

Bio-Plex 200 platform

This high-throughput FDA approved platform allows the simultaneous measurement of up to 100 analytes in the same sample with up to 96 samples being measured concurrently.

Agena MassArray 4 with Chip-Prep Module

The MassARRAY 4 is a specialised mass spectrometry system for the medium throughput targeted analysis of DNA sequences. Genetic variation and DNA methylation is identified by weight differentiation. The Chip-Prep module automates loading and processing of the SpectroCHIP® Array, reducing handling errors and contamination.
