Population Health

Population health research focuses on the health of selected sub-populations or whole populations, rather than health at an individual and clinical level. Public health researchers investigate inter-related factors that influence patterns of health and disease over the life course (e.g. the physical, economic, cultural and social environment, food security, maternal, child and adolescent health, healthy ageing, mental health and access to health care). Population Health utilises evidence-based practice to improve the health of communities and populations via effective health systems, development of healthy public policy, advocacy and community engagement, and strategies to promote ecological sustainability.

Population health research also involves project planning, implementation and evaluation of policies and interventions to improve outcomes at the population level, and reduce health inequalities between population groups.
