I am the course co-ordinator for Bachelor of Preclinical Foundations of Imaging Science (T78) and Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography (T77) at ECU Joondalup Campus.
SON1101 - Sectional Anatomy and Comparative Imaging 1
SON1102 - Introduction to Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound
SON1201 - Sectional Anatomy and Comparative Imaging 2
I have over thirty years of experience in the field of medical imaging and have qualifications in radiography and general sonography. I obtained my professional qualifications from the UK. I have worked in both private and public health sectors in the UK and Western Australia.
Prior to starting at ECU, I was a senior lecturer at Central Queensland University. I have held academic positions at the UWA and Murdoch University.
I am a keen advocate for raising the profile of sonographers in Australia and aim to encourage sonographer led research. Through my leadership role in the Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA) special interest group (SIG) research committee, I played a key role in the establishment and award of the first ASA annual research grant in 2017.
Having successfully implemented and completed the ultrasound aspect of The Peel Child Health Study (https://lifecourse.org.au/cohorts/pchs/) in collaboration with Murdoch University and the University of Western Australia, I am keen to continue my research in the field of feotal medicine. My special interest is in the study of human’s feoto-placental circulation using non-invasive Doppler ultrasound examinations.
My research collaborations and publications during 2015-2017 played a key role in establishing a recent position statement by the Australasians Sonographers Association (ASA) on Mitigating Sonographer Distractions In Obstetric Ultrasounds (PS_Mitigating_Sonographer_Distractions_in_Obstetric_Ultrasound.pdf (sonographers.org)
