Catrina is a Senior Research Fellow in the Food Environments Team, Nutrition and Health Innovation Institute, School of Health and Medical Sciences. Catrina is overseeing research translation for the Food Environments Team and provides support for the portfolio of energy drink research in the research theme of Consumer Food Environments.
Catrina McStay is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with over 10 years’ professional experience working in the field of public health nutrition policy. Catrina has also worked in the field of cereal chemistry managing laboratory and food production facilities in Australia and in a food safety advisory capacity. After completing her Dietetics qualification at Curtin University in 2013, in a senior policy advisor role at the WA Department of Health, Catrina researched and formulated departmental policy positions and government submissions on key public health nutrition and dietetics related matters under consideration of the bi-national Australia and New Zealand food regulation system. Catrina was the WA lead for key public health measures of the Pregnancy Warning Labelling on Alcohol, the Health Star Rating (HSR) System and Precautionary Allergen Labelling. Catrina research has focused on the impact of the food environment, food policy and law, and food insecurity on health and wellbeing outcomes, with a particular interest in children’s nutritional intake and food safety.
Catrina’s research interests include public health nutrition, food environments, food policy and law and food insecurity.
