This training resource, ‘He’s not from here – Acute episode with underlying chronic conditions and cultural and social considerations’, uses a problem-based learning scenario to highlight issues around self-awareness and cultural insensitivity, and their implications for interprofessional collaborative practice.

To use this resource, you will need to read the Facilitators' Guide and view the simulation-based video (please see the instructions provided below).

How to use this IPL training resource

This resource consists of two components: a simulation-based video, and an accompanying Facilitators' Guide. To complete this resource, you will need to read the Guide and view relevant scenes from the video when directed. At relevant points you will be asked to reflect on the content covered and answer related questions.

Specifically, the resource requires that you:

• Read Sections One and Two of the Guide and answer the questions on interprofessional learning;
• Read Section Three of the Guide, watch the simulation-based video ‘He’s not from here’, and answer questions related to interprofessional learning, cultural insensitivity, and Islamophobia; and
• Refer to Section Four of the Guide for a literature review about racism and, in particular, Islamophobia.

Learning outcomes

Key interprofessional learning messages addressed in this resource include: Self-awareness of cultural insensitivity, highlighting anti-Islamic attitudes (Islamophobia), and challenging cultural insensitivity with a co-worker.

Learning outcomes will be addressed through the consideration and discussion of content provided on interprofessional practice generally and, more specifically, on cultural insensitivity and Islamophobia.
