Emma Ritchie

Emma is a Midwifery Unit Coordinator and Lecturer for the Y76 Bachelor of Science (Midwifery and Nursing) course at Edith Cowan University, School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Background

Emma has 25 years of clinical experience in Nursing and Midwifery working in the areas of emergency nursing, palliative care, and midwifery in clinical and community settings in both metropolitan and rural and remote regions across Australia.

Her passion for teaching and research lies within the special interest areas of birthing and dying care, rights and rites of passage, physiological birth and the implementation of best practice evidence in midwifery.

Emma is currently pursuing a PhD titled: “Transcendent moments in birthing and dying: A grounded theory study exploring the practices of midwives and palliative care nurses”.

Emma is committed to educating next generation midwives to be holistic, evidence informed practitioners who are confident to work to the full scope of their role across all settings.
