Summer of STEM

The ECU Summer of STEM (formerly LabRats Schools Out! or the Science Experience) provides students who have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with an opportunity to engage in a variety of interactive workshops on our campuses.

ECU hosts the Summer of STEM at its Joondalup campus during the summer break in January, and introduced a Bunbury program in 2024.  The program aims to boost high school students’ interest and participation in science and math, raise their awareness of STEM careers, and encourage them to continue their science studies onto senior school and University. ECU welcomes students aged 14-17 (high school Years 9, 10 and 11) from across Western Australia, to participate in fascinating science-based activities and workshops facilitated by a welcoming team of ECU scientists and current students.

The program will introduce students to STEM disciplines and activities including, but not limited to:

  • Biological Science
  • Chemistry
  • Computing and Cyber Security
  • Conservation and Wildlife
