Stay Cyber Safe presented the 2023 Western Australia Cyber Security Awards as part of the Cyber West Summit. Several categories and winners were announced on the night including Outstanding Cyber Security Student. The award recognises someone from either TAFE or University who has made a significant contribution to the student cyber security community. Congratulations goes to Mr Blair Johnston a final year Cyber Security student here at Edith Cowan University for being the 2023 Outstanding Cyber Security Student.
Mr Blair Johnston received the award because he actively involves himself in developing, teaching, and supporting cyber security programs here at university and out to the broader community. He has also hosted and organised teaching workshops for his fellow students, developed and presented cyber workshops for visiting groups, represented ECU at cyber events and taken on coordinator roles showcasing cyber security to the world. #ChampionsCreatingChampions.
Blair also trains and competes in various Capture The Flag (CTF) events securing second place at the annual Country to Country (C2C) CTF, and third place at WACTF. He also attends local events and seminars such as SecTalks, STOTM, BSides, and Students of Cyber with others. Blair, aspires to work in red teaming, and to that end, he is studying for the Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) certification in preparedness for employment. Blair continues to build on his skills with personal projects and competing in CTFs.
