Overview of thesis
Cristian is a coastal environmental researcher with a decade of experience working on aquatic ecosystems. His research focuses on understanding the capacity of seagrass soils as biogeochemical sinks and paleoenvironmental tools for management in Australia and Colombia.
Cristian has been working in highly varied fields, from coastal conservation and restoration to water quality assessment, hydrobiological and marine monitoring programs in response to human and natural threats, combining extensive field campaigns and lab work. His research interests are in the impacts of human activities on coastal vegetated ecosystems, particularly those influencing blue carbon ecosystems at different spatial and temporal scales. He also worked on understanding the potential of blue carbon ecosystems as a Nature-based Solution.
