Overview of thesis

Implementing strong cybersecurity measures for identity and access management can reduce vulnerability to cyber-attacks and protect critical information systems without intruding on the user or client experience. As technology evolves, cybercriminals use new tools and skills to create security systems, causing passwords to be ineffective as a safeguard. Instead of traditional key-based passwords, human biometrics can play a vital role in protecting cyberspace from hackers and other dangerous persons among businesses, organisations, and individuals. This thesis investigates the existing biometrics and proposes ear based human recognition that is a touchless solution toward public safety due to the rising concern about the COVID-19 pandemic. First, a novel deep learning-based method is proposed for ear detection in 3D face images. Next, a statistical model known as the 3D morphable ear model is created to extract salient features for representing each individual. Finally, a novel method is proposed for human recognition using extracted features from ear images.
