Kelp wrack subsidising seagrass ecosystems

The kelp Ecklonia radiata become dislodged from reefs and seagrass meadows and is transported into adjacent habitats, including seagrass meadow. This research project aims to examine the importance of various components of this detached kelp as a source of nutrients for the seagrass community, and therefore determine its significance in subsidising seagrass ecosystems. The project is currently examining the incorporation of kelp material into the seagrass foodweb, but will expand to examine sources and the timescales of delivery of kelp to seagrass meadows.
