Overview of role

Post-doctoral researcher: Oliver is a post-doctoral research scientist for the Cyber Security Research Cooperative and the Edith Cowan University Experimental Psychology Unit.

Background

Oliver’s research focuses on applied human factors of cyber security, socio-technical systems, and human-computer interaction. Oliver’s career in research began in 2018 in a project that demonstrated the ability to extract the score of a cyber security training exercise from the Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) of its participants.  His PhD was industry supported by a scholarship provided by Cyber Security Research Cooperative, and industry led placement in the Western Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet’s office of Digital Government.  He developed the Western Australian Cyber Defence Task (WACDT) during his PhD, which was used as a test bed for human factors experiments in network defence. He used the WACDT to show that changes in the way command and control consoles are composed affect the blood flow in the brain and result in either improved performance or decreased performance.
